Coaching and Teletherapy

Welcome! I am so glad that you made it to this page. 

Coaching is an effective intervention in the delivery of services according to several research studies: Kientz & Dunn (2012), Graham, Rodger & Ziviani, (2013) & Foster, Dunn & Lawson (2013). Coaching is even required in IDEA, part C in early intervention.

The purpose of coaching is to increase knowledge and practices, develop new skills and strategies to work towards a goal. There are so many benefits to coaching. Coaching builds parent/caregiver capacity and increases competency in implementing strategies to reach outcomes. Coaching is an effective intervention that helps to bridge the gap of evidenced-based research to evidence-based practice.

Coaching can support parents/caregivers of children with autism, and children with developmental disabilities.

Coaching can also support educators in creating a plan of action in helping their students attain their goals.

 

The coaching process involves five characteristics (Rush & Sheldon’s model for coaching).

  1. Joint planning

  2. Observation

  3. Action/Practice

  4. Reflection 

  5. Feedback

 

Teletherapy

Teletherapy is an online therapy that is delivered via a computer. Occupational therapy services are delivered using telehealth technologies in real-time or near-time situations absent of physical contact (AOTA, 2014).

There are many benefits to teletherapy such as convenience, reduced travel requirements, greater flexibility, a safe environment and no wait time. Teletherapy falls under the umbrella term of Telehealth. 

 

Coaching and all services are available remotely via teletherapy. All you need is a computer or a tablet.
