About Zelda

Zelda has been an occupational therapist for over 30 years working as a school-based therapist. She received her Bachelor’s degree from York College. Zelda also completed both her Masters of Science and Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy from Mount Mary University.

 

Zelda has a  passion and eagerness to educate others about Autism and Sensory Processing Disorder. She provides in-service, workshops, professional development and coaching to educators. Zelda speaks at various universities to graduate students majoring in special education, speech, and language pathology and school psychology. Zelda’s extensive experience and knowledge have given her the ability to present on autism, sensory processing disorder, and fine motor development in an informative and interactive manner. Educators can look forward to gaining knowledge about sensory processing and becoming equipped with classroom strategies.

 

Zelda has recently developed a summer support program for at-risk students entering kindergarten. Zelda is collaborating with a K-2 instructional coach and a social worker in making this a successful program. Building parent capacity through coaching is also a part of this summer support program.

 

There continues to be an increase in the prevalence of children being identified on the autism spectrum. We need to continue raising awareness and educating parents and professionals about autism and its signs and symptoms including sensory processing disorder. 

 

Zelda is a wife and mother of 2 adult children. She is a member of Toastmasters International and has gained the rank of an Advanced Communicator -Silver. She is multi-lingual and an avid traveler. Zelda has visited special education programs abroad and has consulted with educators on enhancing their programs. She is a stand-up comedian and has also been featured on the podcast Women who Succeed.

Coaching and Teletherapy

Coaching is an effective intervention that helps to bridge the gap of evidenced-based research to evidence-based practice. Coaching parents and educators help to build capacity, increase competency and efficacy in implementing strategies to reach outcomes.
